An absolutely amazing "glow up" from the old location in a warehouse attached to a towing company.
The new location in the ground floor of a newly built five over one is flooded with natural light, great vintage style displays and an incredibly deep selection of everything essential for most art school majors.
They also have a robust collection of odd and rare art supplies and tools to get you inspired to experiment. Now that Flax escaped to Oakland, THIS is the best art store in SF by far.
This is my favorite art store of all time. It’s charming and sells a variety of supplies I can’t find anywhere else at a brick and mortar store. Also, if you have kids they have an incredibly appealing collection of art supplies for little ones. They have schminke watercolor pods which- I can’t find anywhere else. The staff are always helpful and friendly and parking is easy!
It was my first time there so I didn’t know where anything was, but the workers helped me just fine. They have way more in store than they do online. Everything is organized and neat and I would recommend coming here for any art supplies you need.
The shop owners are so helpful. They helped me answer question about which acrylic colors are more affordable and specific to my needs. This personal assistance beats big stores any day.

I so seriously value the opportunity to go to a real store and talk with knowledgeable humans on the weekend. It seems like the entire purchasing process has been shifted away from this type of engagement. The store was great and the employee guided me and my daughter to the best purchase for her project. I will return!
The staff was very helpful. I needed to put together a kit for a class that I am taking. I was able to find most things on my own, but asked for assistance on a few items. I will definitely be back. This is now my go-to local art supply store!!
The ONLY place on the peninsula that currently has Evergreen or Plastruct styrene products and they have BOTH! I will be going there later today to stock up.
Best little neighborhood gem for choice and varied art supply.
